James Lee Murray is a soul singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist from Watsonville, Ca.  His debut album RESONATE is out now and available for streaming on on major platforms.

Music and performing were intrinsic in the Murray household growning up.  James recounts improvising over blues forms at his fathers gigs as some of his earliest memories.  His mother was also a gifted singer and classical pianist, creating a rich musical environment to come up in.  Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Bonnie Raitt, are listed as some of his first musical influences.

In 2006, while studying music at Cabrillo College, Murray was invited to sing in a Christmas Concert at Twin Lakes Church, Aptos, Ca.  This garnered the attention of local club managers, ultimately leading the formation of the band West Coast Soul, lead by James’ father, Fenton Murray.  “An invaluable experience and education in music”, says James.

Drawing from blues, gospel, and jazz, Murray is exploring a new direction of soul music.  His openness as a songwriter has a unique way of pairing with the deep grooves and convictions of the genre.

James is has opened up for Black Pumas, Son Little, Anderson East, Brett Dennon, Peter Harper, and many others.  He has been featured on KRML radio’s pub talk, KQSD radio, and performed live on KPIG radio.
